Jake & Leon #323: Webcomic – The Enemies part 2

Actually that would have made a good Kids Next Door villain.

I better come up with some jokey villains soon. I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this gag going.

No Clutter Report this week because of another family gettogether. I won’t have one next weekend, and if I can even keep last week’s pace I should be okay.

DC’s Phantom miniseries ends this week, but I do have a few issues from the ongoing. I’m not sure what else to say except let’s see how many articles the next chapter of Seduction Of The Innocent takes to question a clinical psychologist.

Saturday Night Showcase: The History Of Batman ’66

Batman (TV series)

With Adam West’s passing everyone was talking about the original Batman television series. However, most of the ones I saw were all personal accounts and were basically similar, so at some point I just stopped watching them. These were people who either hated the show and later found a new respect for it, or were always fans. I always enjoyed the show and most of the incarnations of Batman since. (Not all, but even someone like me with more open tastes has their preferences.

NerdSync however didn’t just talk about how they personally felt about the show. Scott instead looked at the history of the show, from why it was created to how it was received at the time, and the legacy it left behind. And because I can’t seem to escape him until this darn book is done, Fredric Wertham gets brought up as well. It’s like he’s fighting me, which is odd given his stance on comics, but nevermind. I actually learned a few things I didn’t know about the creation of the show, and hopefully you will too.

Friday Night Fights: Monkey Fighting By Moonlight

Ah, the Summer nights, when you can lay out under the stars, see the full moon, turn into a giant ape monster and doom the planet. Just the joys of life. Well, if you’re a half-Saiyan child kidnapped to unlock your full power before your partial race comes to destroy your planet. I told you the Dragon Ball universe was a strange one.

“Dog Days” round 3

I know I’m probably stretching both the theme and the word fight, but dang it I’ve talked about nothing but Fredric Wertham all week and I’m losing another Saturday to family (other side this time) so this is what I have to play with.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Total Recall – The Board Game

Total Recall

Total Recall (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Remember Total Recall? I’ve reviewed the novelization if you want to look that up, and there was also a comic adaptation and a video game. Well a couple of decades later we’re getting the board game, and it actually sounds fun to play. It’s nice to know board games haven’t gone away although I never had anyone to play them with.

Chapter By Chapter Special: Seduction Of The Innocent ch. 3 #4

So what is this “Hookey Club” I’ve been trying to get too all week? Granted the only thing special about it is that it’s the last thing to discuss with this chapter and I’ve been trying to get over with it. But when he claims something I used as a refuge from bullying causes bullying I’ve to got try even harder to be fair. I know he means well and he deals with a lot of troubled (not necessarily bad or criminal) kids all day, but I keep feeling like he’s searching for an easy answer. Could a kid of weaker conscience be influenced by something he or she sees? There’s plenty of evidence of that, although it was usually something they shouldn’t see or they were already a little on the crazy psycho side. But it sounds like, even though he uses the word “influence” he’s saying comics cause these kids to pursue these actions and I’m going to take offense to that. Remember, this man is saying that Superman will drive kids to perform criminal acts.

So….the Hookey Club. After the second World War Wertham came up with the idea of a meeting place for delinquents and predelinquents. And no, I don’t know how you determine what a predelinquent is. Even spell check doesn’t know what that is. This group was affectionately called the Hookey Club one time and the name stuck, truancy being a big issue with this group. It’s actually a good idea. So let’s check his findings with what we as comic fans know comics to be.  Here’s the link once again to this chapter so you can follow along.
