Chapter By Chapter: 1st Phase Shifters & The Omega Capsule ch. 12

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

I don’t know if they’ve mastered their new power yet, but at least Crede, Zucker, and Hal know how it works. Will that be enough to halt the invasion? Is Morris Green really Hoylt, and what is his plan either way? Well, considering this week’s chapter title, I think we’re about to find out.

Chapter 12: Hoylt

With a crossbones flag. Maybe Hoylt is a pirate? No, it’s missing the skull part.

“Yesterday’s” Comic> The New Titans #0

Yes, the Zero Hour aftermath is still going on, and that’s just the stuff still in my longbox. I have some in another drawer that I may or may not get to.

Mirage didn’t have time to finish her Kyle Rayner cosplay before Comic-Con.

If there isn’t on-screen chemistry between characters playing friends (and especially love interests), it’s not going to go well for the movie. However, sometimes even good on-screen chemistry may not equal good OFF-screen chemistry. Writing for The New York Post’s website, Jane Ridley found 10 such examples in movies and television. And yes, the above picture contains one such example. Some didn’t get along, some hated each other, and two oddly would later start dating, proving how little I understand Hollywood-types.

Jake & Leon #315: Webcomic – The Love Interest

I love how that never occurred to them.

I may defend superhero marriages but not every hero has to start off with some kind of love interest.

In this week’s Clutter Report it’s the last of the original Robots In Disguise leaders, that series’ version of Megatron, which suffers from a few too many alt modes.

Those of you who read the “Spider-Island” storyline have been introduced to the idea of Spider-Ham, Spidey’s anthropomorphic counterpart, but you really don’t know what he was like. They gave him a really different personality. I know because I happen to have a few issues of Peter Porker: The Spectacular Spider-Ham, and guess what we’ll be reviewing for the next few Fridays? Meanwhile, the DC Adventures tie-in comics return to Saturdays with the adaptation of “World’s Finest” (aka The Batman Superman Movie) that set up Batman and company’s move from Fox Kids to Kids WB.

I’m not going to bother listing other plans because lately my plans have a knack for failing. I was hoping to get some government assistance tied to my Crohn’s, but that seems to be considered in remission now. I have no references and haven’t worked since 2013 so I don’t know what I can get, but even if I can find a job the odds of being able to go to ConnectiCon this year (unless one of you has something in the range of $400-500 to spare for hotel, admission if I can’t get a press pass, food, and picking up some stuff for later review) looks highly unlikely. I still want to get the panels from last year done if I can before this year’s event, but we’ll see what happens. Like I said, my plans seem to be failing to happen lately. Like that theory I’m also hoping to do this week. We’ll see.

Saturday Night Showcase: Murder Can Hurt You!

What happens when some of the greatest police officers of 1970s television–Baretta, Columbo (and the ill-conceived spin-off featuring his wife that was pushed out of canon gets a nod), Kojak, Starsky & Hutch, Ironside, McCloud, and Police Woman–team up to stop a madman trying to kill them? Beats me; these were parodies of those shows. But while having knowledge of these characters might make the show better–except for what they did to Angie Dickenson’s character; seriously, what the hell, guys?–you might still get some fun out of a group of bumbling detectives trying to outwit the Man In White before they’re all killed one by one.

Murder Can Hurt You! is a 1980 made-for-TV movie. It shares a concept with the 1976 theatrical movie Murder By Death except the latter used mystery novel detectives instead of police show detectives.

Friday Night Fights: Assassin Down

Let’s make this one quick because I’m under the gun here. The Legion Of Super-Heroes are newly formed…again…and are dealing with their first threat…again. Seriously, I’m glad I never got into that series because it’s been rebooted more times than the rest of the DC Universe, and that’s too many to begin with.

“Boom” round 9

I know I’ve missed quite a few this tournament. I’ve been sick. At least it’s not as bad as last year, right? 🙂
