BW’s Morning Article Link: Star Wars For Kids

Figure this one out. Disney/Marvel canceled the Dark Horse license (or didn’t renew it, whichever) so they could produce Star Wars comics in-house, right? So you would think that if someone was going to produce a series of Star Wars comics for kids it would be Marvel, right? WRONG! It’s IDW taking up the mantle by producing Star Wars Adventures. Marvel, you used to make TWO kids comics when you originally held the license, which was based on the cartoons at the time, but you still did it. Have you abandoned kids comics so much that a third party has to make your kids comics for you?

And for those of you who hate that “your” property is being marketed to kids, is the franchise supposed to die with you and never be mentioned again? Take your kid hatred and “everything for MEEEEEEEEEEEE” attitude elsewhere!

Chapter By Chapter> 1st Phase Shifters & The Omega Capsule ch.10

Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

In our last installment, our heroes discovered the origin of the Omega Capsule and what it does. Hoylt misused it and not he’s evil, a rarity among the T. DAK6 people, and if Morris Green is Hoylt he may be planning an invasion. Meanwhile Zucker and Hal may have discovered a new power and Crede’s simple curiosity of Earth has turned into a battle to save it. Is he up to the challenge? We may or may not find out this chapter, because the drawing is a pie. Pie will save us all! Right?

BW’s Morning Article Link: NES Classic Cancelled

Someone explain this to me. The NES Classic, a smaller plug-and-play version of the Nintendo Entertainment System, has a number of retro gaming fans and is in high demand. So what does Nintendo do? Cancel it. According to CNet there will be retro games available through the E-Store that the new Switch will access, but come on, guys. There are those who want a classic controller in their hands for the full experience, not a modern controller or the Joycons. I don’t understand what goes on in Japanese businesses sometimes.

Jake & Leon #313: “Good Threats”

I don’t usually do a “payback” gag, but this one wanted to exist.

Also, I think that was Jake’s sundae.

You may (or may not) have noticed no Marvel Adventures review. I think I’m getting a handle on the congestion…again, but it’s seriously eaten into my time. Also, everything else, like this week’s Clutter Report, where I adjusted a shelf. And then did it again. And then did it again again. Since this is a short series I think this will be the Marvel offering for the next batch of Tuesdays, and then it’s back to the regular Marvel continuity. Apparently I can’t get that extra review in on Sunday. I’ve been late with the comic as it is.

I have at least one new monthly article series coming this week, thanks to it being the best way to review a gift a friend gave me recently, but I’m going to keep the rest of you in suspense on that one, but it involves He-Man and the local newspaper. I also need to make a logo and do some quick research. There’s also the final two issues of the He-Man/Thundercats crossover that I plan to do one double-sized “Today’s Comic” article on in the nightly longform article. It’s best way to review that under the current attempt to re-organize and schedule, plus lose this cough. So prepare for a lot of He-Man this week, but we’ll still have the usual book review and Friday Night Fight, plus one other thing because I only have enough Grayskull for two days.

Saturday Night Showcase: The Video Game Years (1978)

The year was 1978. A President was in the White House. Some baseball team that people liked won the World Series. And songs were playing on the radio.

What do you expect? I was 5, and I can’t tell the passage of time. However, the folks at Retroware remember 1978, or just researched a lot. The topics of Space Invaders, the Astrocade and Odyssey 2, and APF Mp1000 game consoles, the introduction of the trackball, Atari Football, Super Breakout and Breakout clones, the Simon (which did inspire a number of mini-games in video games), and Warner’s acquisition of Atari.

Note that there is some swearing in this one.
