Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken on more dramatic roles than his old “blow em up high” roles of 1980s. In an interview with ScreenCrush’s Matt Singer the actor and former governor discusses why his movie choices have changed in light of his current role in Aftermath. Not mentioned, however, is the ads for the smartphone game Mobile Strike although they do discuss the famous line that probably got him the job and why his quotes are so meme-worth on the internet.

This mannequin effect would look horrible in color. But in black & white he does appear to be flying.
Nowadays movies and TV shows not in color (unless they’re trying to be “retro” or an homage) are looked down upon, or so it appears, by the modern casual audience. Heck, if the video game community or the push for higher-rez TVs is to be believed anything short of “looking like they are literally next to me” is to be looked down upon. However the creators of those movies didn’t have color to work with, so they worked with what they had, and the result is something that would only work in black and white.
RocketJump Film School, the arm of web studio RocketJump, recently posted a video defending the black and white movie and the way it was used to create emotion, fear, and excitement.
In other continuities, Stan Sakai’s furry wandering samurai Usagi Yojimbo has crossed paths with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in both comics and cartoons. However he has yet to meet the IDW version. That changes as ICv2 reports on an upcoming crossover between the franchises. Will they use the same Usagi from the comics, in which case I want to see him confused that there is another group of Turtles, or create an original take like the cartoons have?
Chapter by Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

So where were we? We know what our heroes look like, or at least the two who took on human form, as well as our main hero’s potential love interest’s appearance. (You don’t risk food poisoning half the town for just anyone after all.) We also learned Crede bears the mark of the Double Dragon would-be leader of his people, which is an outdated notion but probably what Hoylt, his brother, is here to see…with a body that exists considering their non-physical normal states. They also suspect that Hoylt is Morris Green, a man Crede had an odd encounter with at a bar recently. Now Hal and Zucker are planning to find out. How? You knew there was going to be trouble eventually right?
Oh and, we still don’t know what the Omega Capsule is.
Chapter 7: Two Dimensions
Our image for this chapter is a desk with either a badly drawn computer or one of those cardboard things you see at the store to stage the desk without covering it with actual books and computers.

We had two updates on the upcoming Godzilla animated movie from Japan. August Ragone brings us news of the movie’s official title. It’s not only NOT simply “Godzilla” (leaving our confusion at three movies with the same name) but unlike the last live-action outing from Godzilla’s homeland is something that works outside of Japan. (I still shake my head at Funimation’s decision to not use the international title during it’s limited theatrical release which I sadly missed. It’s like they didn’t care about the non-Japanophiles in the Godzilla fandom. Casuals matter, dang it, and they’d be better drawn to Godzilla: Resurgence than Shin Godzilla!) The link also gives a synopsis for the film, which is admittedly an interesting take on the G-verse.
The second article focuses on the cast and of course there’s the often-used “Godzilla killed my parents and I want revenge” that’s shown up in the movies (sometimes replaced by a mentor) and in the Dark Horse comics. I wonder if Allie in the IDW comics is on an anti-Godzilla revenge trip now as well? I really want to get back to reading those and get caught up. Also, they’re planning a trilogy so let’s hope for their sake that the first movie is good enough to support it.
If you recall Jake’s creation history, his line becomes a callback.
So I didn’t get anything done last week on the site. I did go to the doctor on Monday, got some medicine, and I’m finally feeling better…although I have a very sleepless night on Friday which means my Saturday was spent on the couch. (This means no clutter organizing and no Clutter Report this week. We have two more Transformers reviews to do before I move on.) The upside is the best night’s sleep I’ve had in weeks and I didn’t need an afternoon nap yesterday or today, which is a step up from the last half of March. However, due to all that and scheduling I won’t be doing a new comic review until Wednesday. Morning Article Links, Monday’s Chapter By Chapter, and some kind of review or commentary will hopefully be made on Tuesday, but no comic reviews until Wednesday. I should be back to schedule by then.
Speaking of which, we have one more interesting artifact from the world of Oh My Goddess and the conclusion to Thundercats: Dogs Of War as well as the first miniseries from IDW’s Transformers. This site started some time into All Hail Megatron and I still plan to revisit reviews from the old weekly comic reviews to make searching for a particular comic review easier for me, but Transformers: Infiltration is something I have yet to review. Considering my current self-imposed (when I actually had income) disconnection from IDW’s G1 universe it should be interesting to go back to when this might be interesting, before things all fell apart.
I also hope to get the first BW Panelling done. Odd how I wanted to do a video on the last Saturday of the month but I keep getting sick on the last Saturday and better on the first. I also have a quick thing I need to record in the name of setting up some early issues with the recording. Two more panels will follow but I just have to balance audio and remove hard curse words there. I can do that as long as I’m not coughing too much and am awake to do so. So hurray for recovery! I hope I’m done being sick!
At least it won’t be as long as last year’s.
I still don’t have a comic ready. In addition to the tiredness I mentioned last week I’m also coughing and hacking stuff up (that’s the grossest this is going to get) and I haven’t been able to focus on “work”. This week’s Clutter Report, a review of Robots In Disguise (the first version) Ultra Magnus, was really late today. So while I plan to call the doctor tomorrow (and hopefully get up before lunch, which I almost didn’t today) I want to take a few days, hopefully not the whole week, to sleep off the sleepiness or find something to wake me up. (No, energy shots is not a solution. Plus the one time I tried that I got gas.) Whatever day I do start (it probably won’t be until at least Wednesday but hopefully Friday at the latest) we’ll finish Thundercats: Dogs Of War, since I’ve left you hanging on miniseries and storylines enough last year.
I don’t like taking a break but if I’m going to review stuff it helps to be wide awake. I may use what little awake time I have to adjust the Patreon rewards or work on the video (I have to record something so this cough has to go first) so hopefully that will be done. But if I’m not awake I can’t give a fair review of whatever media I’m discussing. I also need to come up with a new article logo because that’s just how I am and of course Jake & Leon. I’ll be back as soon as I can folks. My apologies but I want to be at my best when doing this site, or at least good enough.
