Jake & Leon #295: Pie And Servo

I'm assuming he has a smart TV that he can watch the livestream with.

I’m assuming he has a smart TV that he can watch the livestream with.

In hindsight I should have put a pie in there instead of popcorn. Also for some reason the text shifted when I created the PNG file. I don’t understand that. But yes, if you have access to the internet, Shout Factory TV and livestreaming site Pluto (which has an MST3k channel) will be doing the annual Turkey Day event where Joel Hodgeson and new Satellite Of Love prisoner Jonah Ray (and of course it’s going on Netflix…I’m starting to hate that site) will be counting down the fan-chosen favorite episodes of the original Comedy Central and Sci-Fi Channel Mystery Science Theater 3000. I’m hoping to catch the rerun since my family sadly doesn’t have this as part of their tradition.

So I can’t hold it back anymore. This week we get into the first WildStorm Thundercats miniseries, the least offensive of the lot. We’ll also be getting to the few issues of the actual Zero Hour: Crisis In Time issues I own. I don’t have all of them so I can’t review the full event, but I’ll do what I can, perhaps do an article where I look into synopses of missing issues like I did for Secret Wars II and the unpublished Simon Furman Transformers stories. I’m also trying to figure out what to do for Thanksgiving on the site since it won’t be my priority and I also have to get Friday’s reviews ready as well as decide if I’m doing Art Soundoff for Thursday or Friday to focus on the holiday. As for Saturday I’m out of graphic novels for now but there is one collection I’ve been meaning to finally look at, the digital comics in my ComiXology storage. So Saturdays (until I unbury another GN or trade that isn’t Scanning My Collection material) will be devoted to that, which means the possibility of an extra DC or Marvel review that week.

Speaking of Art Soundoff, we’re close to the end of the event and we have new additions to the list, if you want to check them out.  Enjoy.

Saturday Night Showcase: Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest

Comic-Con has started their own paid video streaming site and I’m convince that if you paid for every site like this out there you’d end up paying more for all of them than you do cable. They have a number of comic and pop culture shows and some original series, like Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest. The series follow Hamill and his puppet pal Pop the rabbit (don’t ask me, I’m not signed up for it) as they explore various aspects of pop culture. Since Comic-Con HQ is a paid site I have not seen a full episode, but thanks to DC’s YouTube channel we can see part of it.

In a recent episode Hamill visits the new California offices of DC Entertainment (Time Warner moved them from New York to bring them closer to Hollywood, a controversial decision to some comic fans since New York is the heart of both DC and Marvel…more Marvel since half their superheroes live in New York.) We get a look at the DC archives, including how Batman would have reacted had fans voted for Jason Todd to live and some amazing art pieces, as well as seeing Jim Lee draw the Joker as Hamill explains how he came up with the Joker voice that a lot of today’s fans insist is THE Joker. It’s possibly not the full episode since they call it a clip but it’s an idea as to what the show is like and interesting as well.

Friday Night Fight: It’s Labor Fightin’ Time

So because Fred of Spacebooger.com hates me we have another theme fight. Last time it was kicking, this time it’s end with a punch. Not just a punch in the fight but ending with one. Which means I hope I get lucky with my daily comics for the next 12 rounds. Although if the next tournament has a headbutt theme or something I’m out. I don’t always remember the fights in the book to that level.

Well, today I do have a punch-ending fight. With robot mecha. That has to be a good place to start.
