Morning Article Link: In Defense Of A Rabbit Samurai

Best Scene Usagi Yojimbo #1 for $1

Have you ignored Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo because it’s gone on so long? Or because it uses cartoony animals? Maybe you need to give the wandering samurai in feudal Japan another look. In this installment of “Ask Chris”, Chris Sims of Comics Alliance explains why Sakai may be the greatest comic creator out there today. Or at least high-ranking.

Updates, But No Comic

On Friday we buried my mother’s ashes. As you can imagine I wasn’t up to making a comic this week. I was trying to make sure the main content came up this week and writing the eulogy. I guess I did the latter well enough because I got praise for it. So I guess I honored my mother’s memory. I actually considered posting it to The Tronix Tumblr but it felt more like me showing off as a writer and this was kind of personal so I opted not to. Still, I did what I wanted to, the last thing I can do for my mother. She’s with her parents now.

Back on the BW front we’re all done with Spidey Super Stories. I’m disappointed, too, but I hope to get more. Tuesday will have actually review a different adaptation, from Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends, before getting to the X-Men toon comics. I suspect there will be purgings there. Wednesday will conclude Gigantor, and next week (which will feature the return of both Jake & Leon and The Clutter Reports) I’ll be announcing a slight change to the double daily comic review lineup. Trust me, it will be cool. I hope, anyway.

Friday Night Fights: Anakin’s Not The Only Padawan?

The Star Wars prequels naturally focused on Anakin, but the same is true for most episodes of the recently The Clone Wars cartoon. If he wasn’t there then it was all about Padme, Obi-Wan, Yoda, R2 & 3PO and new character Ahsoka. (Who I just heard is coming back in the second season of the new show, Star Wars Rebels. I really want to see what happens when she comes up against Darth Vader, who will also be making an appearance, and if that’s not James Earl Jones, it’s that guy from the games who is darn close.) However, the previous cartoon, simply Clone Wars, was different. The microseries was produced by Genndy Tartakovsky, who is known to focus on action and yet still sneak in character development. He also wasn’t afraid to leave the movie cast behind and let some of the lesser-known Jedi have a little time. And the comic at the time followed suit.

For those of you who missed last week’s review, Devilworlds is a collection of comics from the UK’s Empire Strikes Back magazine. Alan Moore was the writer of all three stories ending this collection, and by the last tale you’ll wonder if Moore even heard of Star Wars much less saw it.

New Mutants

New Mutants (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Not only is Fox not giving up the X-Men license to Marvel Studios they’re pushing further into it. Comic Book Resources reports on the New Mutants movie, based on the X-Spinoff comic. Hopefully I can be free of Wolverine.
