BW’s Daily Video> How A New Comic Publisher Spends Its Money

The price of getting a comic made and distributed is something I’m interested in given I want to make and sell comics. July had his own money from other projects that he could tap for this project. Not having that option I won’t be able to go the route he has and I’m coming up with different options (so far using Burning Star Comics‘ system seems to be the only I chance I have to make money on this in the hopes of someday making this a career so I can focus on making comics and other media-related projects) but seeing his success and others through self-publishing does give one hope.

Chapter By Chapter> TekWar chapter 25

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at a time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

We’re down to the last ten chapters of this book. That means if Jake’s going to find the Kittridges he better do it fast. Last time secured an alternate route to his contact, so we’ll see how that works out, possibly in this chapter.

I try to pad these things out for people going through the homepage and to put some decent length into the article but as we get closer to the end I run out of things to say, which I’m doing now. So let’s just get to reading.

I didn’t make that connection either.

Martin Luther King’s Dream Speech

I would have posted this in the daily quickpost but I forgot today was Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I keep thinking it’s in February, during Black History Month. (That’s the shortest month of the year; make of that what you will.) I usually see stuff leading up to the day as reminders it’s coming, but this year? Nothing. It’s like even the civil rights movement wants to distance themselves from King’s message of judging by character, and not skin color, wanting to forget that when white boys and white girls join hands with black boys and black girls might means those boys and girls will start dating, marrying, and having kids with each other. I would love to see a day where King’s dream becomes a reality and skin color will be treated no different than hair and eye color. The only race that really exists is the human race.

This week’s Chapter By Chapter review will be posted tomorrow. I don’t want this speech to be forgotten so long as the goal hasn’t been achieved.

BW’s Daily Article Link: An Alternate Comic Crowdfunder

Trying to fund your independent comic on something like Kickstarter and Indiegogo is not easy. Unless you’re looking for comics I don’t know how easy it is for them to show up in suggestions with all of the other items looking to crowdfund their dream project (or scam their backers). Then you have reports of shadow bans for personal or in some views political reasons. It would be easier to have one spot just for comic projects that truly is an open platform for creators who just want to make comic stories regardless of their ideology that people looking for new comics can check out. We can’t all start our own publishing company like Eric July did to go around the current system that favors DC and Marvel.

Bleeding Fool goes over a soon-to-launch crowdfunder just for comics who doesn’t care who you voted for in the last election. As someone who wants to make comics I’ll be keeping an eye on this to see how well it promotes indie comic creators and whether or not they get the short end in the future.
