Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at a time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.
Well, it seems jealousy waylaid our heroes last chapter, but since we’re around the last third of the book they better not get away from the main plot again. This looks like a decent lengthed chapter with another blank page division between this and the next section. I don’t know if that’s intentional for the story, something with the printing, or what but I’m hoping it’s an indicator we’re moving along.
Most because by now I’m out of things to discuss to lengthen these intros for the homepage. So let’s just dive in and see how Jake and Bethdroid are going to contact Warbride now.
Well, despite not liking androids he does have a friend who is an android brothel owner…as in she’s an android and the brothel caters to android fetishes. This is one time I really didn’t need a description of what was playing on the TVs but sadly we get that. Anyway, Jake is there to meet with the reporter, who isn’t convinced by Jake that he just fell asleep. Nice to see he has a purpose in this story after all, an alternate way to get to Warbride since Jake can’t trust his other sources haven’t meet with Vargas first. Jealous boyfriends are such a pain. At least we may finally get our meeting, and Swires did some investigating (a good thing for an investigative reporter to do) and knows Jake is working for Bascom. He also thinks this is the real Beth, and now I wonder if the guys who were chasing them thought the same thing? At least her decoy gig is still intact.
Later, Jake meets with Bethdroid and let’s her know about the meeting. There’s a false concern when she isn’t in the room but she was just outside. They do discuss the theory that Vargas’ sicking the dogs…or rather, bulls…on Jake may be less about Warbride and more about working with the infamous TekLord Sonny Hokori we’ve heard mentioned numerous times or even Sands and that’s why he wants Jake out of the way. Whatever the case, we finally have a way around him. The same section also decides to dig more into Jake’s past with his father but frankly it doesn’t really tell us anything new and seems unnecessary. Then again, so did the bit with Swires a few chapters ago.
Will the next chapter have us finally meeting Warbride? And will Jake punch Vargas’ lights out for the murder attempt? We’ll find out next time.
[…] of this book. That means if Jake’s going to find the Kittridges he better do it fast. Last time secured an alternate route to his contact, so we’ll see how that works out, possibly in this […]
