If you want to go down the rabbit hole (the right people would get me if I called it the “Stampy hole”) of the various universe, and I don’t understand the cover-exclusive universes either, here’s the complete “official” fan list from the TF Wiki. And if you find the Sun Raid universe from the Listen N Play Cliffjumper audiotape let me know. Also, no GoBot universe for the Escape To Planet Earth promo booklet that is the first GoBots media? For shame, guys.
Yesterday Netflix released the full trailer for Cowboy Bebop, or rather their anti-animation remake of the popular Japanese animated series. Yes, I still maintain the only reason a Western studio is doing a live-action version is because of the media bias against “dem durn cartoonies” having a franchise that popular and are convinced they could do it better in live-action. I’ll get more into that in my next Art Of Storytelling article, but I disagree.
Created by Shinichiro Watanabe, the show follows the adventures of an unlikely team of misfit “cowboys”, the galaxy’s terms for bounty hunters in this future society, who hang out together on the ship, the Bebop. Owned by Jet Black, the “crew” consists of former gangster Spike Spiegel, the show’s main focus character, the femme fatale Fay Valentine, and the crazy teen hacker girl Edward. (And yes, she is a girl and will tell you so.) Along with the dog Ein, the group get into all kinds of crazy adventures and are the most united dysfunctional surrogate family in fiction. Netflix wants to do a live-action version and in so many ways there attempts to show how good they insist it will be has not exactly won me over. So what about this last attempt?

Last time we finally found out what happened to Spock but we’re still not sure what he’s up to or why he left Uhura in the lurch. This time we check back in with Mr. Scott. When last we saw him all the way back in early part one he was the last man standing with the exception of Uhura. He tendered his resignation from Starfleet but he’s still part of the clean-up crew, at least until we learn if his resignation was accepted.
We’re at the point in these reviews where I’m really running out of things to say because we’re deep into the story and I don’t want to leave spoilers on the homepage. If you’re reading the article itself you should already be prepared for spoilers or have already read the chapter and are ready to hear my thoughts on it. So without further adieu let’s get on with that.
