BW’s Morning Article Link: Tim Drake Pulls A Bucky

There are time I think something can’t get dumber and soon realize I’m underestimating the power of stupid. Take for example Tim Drake. They made him Red Robin as an homage to Kingdom Come, then gave him that dumb bird cape in the New 52, and now they’re giving him a new hero name. Yes, Tim Drake will now be calling himself…Drake, at least if Newsarama is right. This is a new form of stupid. I guess Spoiler will now be going by Brown? Will Batman just call himself Wayne now? I here Kane is getting her own CW series. I know some people have an issue with “Red Robin” as it’s both too close to Robin and the name of a restaurant chain, and DC is still trying to play to the cool kids but seriously?

Oh it gets dumber. Why is he calling himself Drake, or least why did an alternate universe Tim call himself Drake? Not because of his last name. Because of the duck. Because a male duck is a dangerous bird. Granted we’re talking Earth-3, where evil not-Justice League comes from but really? Ducks are dangerous? To what, bread? Darkwing Duck maybe. Dick Gray…sorry, “Rick” Grayson (DiDio!) went by Nightwing, Spoiler went back to being Spoiler, and Jason took over the Red Hood costume to pay back the Joker. There have been other bird-named additions to the team (one of whom was killed off) but there were also bat-named ones and ones with connection to neither. (Knight and Squire come to mind.) So even the reason Tim turned his last name into his superhero name is stupid. Who thought all this was a good idea?

Brian Michael Bendis? I should have known. Even people in the comments of that article were coming up with better names! Redwing (the name of his Robinmobile in the pre-52) is probably my favorite. Matches the history, ties in to Nightwing. That takes thought and thought is apparently not Bendis’ strong suit sometimes.

Jake & Leon #424: Iron Wardrobe

I think we’d all like Tony’s wardrobe in either identity.

I wish I could have given myself more time to do a better job on those armors.

Over at The Clutter Reports my going over of the Transformers Universe figures in my collection reaches our first Micromaster Combiner, the Railbots. Wince at my occasionally subpar renames.

So what’s going on this week. I’m hoping to get another Finally Watched movie off my list and thus onto an article. The Robotech reviews return to episode adaptation comic reviews for a while. More action with Robin Hood, and the Japanese G1 Transformer cartoon intros. Plus whatever grabs my attention this week. Hope it’s a good one for you!

Saturday Night Showcase: She-Ra: Princess Of Friendship

I’m going by what I’ve heard since I lack Netflix but it sounds like their She-Ra’s idea of stories about friendship involves slumber parties and proms while her totally not gay buddy wants to turn her evil again. When CLASSIC She-Ra does an episode called “Friendship”, they have Adora rescuing her best friend and her father from an island full of monster while her new friends go along to help even when she says she wants to go alone despite that being a really dumb idea. Tell me again why classic She-Ra is so bad for girls and lame cheese?

In this episode Adora learns her never before mentioned best friend from her days being tricked to serve the Horde is in danger and she goes to rescue her. Bow wants to help but Adora insists this is personal and not Great Rebellion related and goes alone. This goes about as well as you’d expect, showing nobody is perfect and why we need our friends to help us in great situations. Also, She-Ra befriends a not-dragon because of course she does. It’s what I found this week but I think you’ll like it.

The Many MANY Intros Of The Transformers (G1 US)

Premiering in 1984 with a three episode miniseries, The Transformers went on to become one of the cartoons of the 1980s, lasting three original seasons, a three episode miniseries finale (it ended as it started), and two rerun seasons. At least in the US, but I’ll get more into Japan next time. Between the two countries there have been many Transformers cartoons, and for the next I don’t know how many Fridays I’ll be looking into the intros for all of them. There are a lot of them, more than Superman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Batman–possibly combined but I haven’t done the math. Those “Many Intro” articles took one or two parts, but this is going have a lot of them.

And my apologies for those of you on slower connections for most of these installments, including tonight’s. Even with the smaller groupings this is going to take a while to load. I considered doing separate pages but how many times do you want to reload my host’s advertisements? Granted they could use the money even if I don’t get any of it (still hoping for advice on the Patreon rewards…I need a moment to redo that) but I think this is the easier option. Load it once and get on with it. Just for the US run we have six intros…seven if you count the addition of Transformers: Generation Two, which was just reruns anyway and where else am I going to put it? So let’s get on with this.

BW’s Morning Article Link: The Continued Success Of The Golden Girls

MAY 28: THE GOLDEN GIRLS – 9/24/85 – 9/24/92, ESTELLE GETTY, BEA ARTHUR, BETTY WHITE, RUE MCCLANAHAN, (Photo by Walt Disney Television via Getty Images Photo Archives/Walt Disney Television via Getty Images)

The Golden Girls premiered in1985 and ended in 1992, and was about four senior citizens. So how is it that even teenagers in 2019 are drawn to this show? Maybe this article by Hidden Remote (a Fansided site) contributor Rebecca Mills can figure it out.
