Publisher’s Weekly clued me in to an addition to DC’s official Watchmen site. Hoping to play off the success of the movie (some would put quotes around “success” because while the movie topped the box office, it was expected to do better), DC is listing other collected graphic novels they think fans of the movie and comics would like.
It’s funny that so many on these lists also tend to be the comics I avoid. The “books that redefine modern super heroes” tend to be the ones that do so for the worst, not for the better. I am so over dark, troubled heroes, which is probably why I have no interest in Watchmen. Back when it came out it was new, edgy (in the real sense, not the usual “edgy” that usually means violent, curse and sex laden, and fully of pretty explosions with little to show for it–and I LIKE pretty explosions) and innovative. Now it’s just part of the pack.

We found the squid in the movie!

Will this make the nitpicky fans who wanted a frame-by-frame adaptation happy? Probably not, because then they wouldn’t be nitpicky. Nice of them to do that, though.
