I was trying to figure out what to write about today, and then I saw a couple commentaries in today’s paper that reminded me that while we honor fallen soldiers, and those still on the battlefield, we don’t seem to pay much attention to those who have seen battle, and came home to little fanfare (or in the case of Vietnam War Vets, scorn and contempt). As someone who wouldn’t have the guts to be a soldier, but have family and friends who have served in the armed forces, some of whom have experienced combat (and can tell you that even the most real video game doesn’t come close to true combat), I felt like making a quick sketch that popped in my head.
Yes, it took an hour and shows, but a real artist is welcome to run with that. Just remember the theme: they fought so we don’t have to. Show a vet some love today, would you?
