Buck Rogers #9

ARTIST: Carlos Rafael
COLORIST: Carlos Lopez
LETTERER: Simon Bowland
COVER “B” (shown) ARTIST: John Watson
When Buddy finds out that Wilma is a prisoner of the air city of Han, Buck has to keep him from getting himself killed trying to rescue his sister. Meanwhile, the leader of Han is trying to convince Wilma to be his queen (which she refuses), and demonstrates his city’s weaponry after the blocked rescue attempt, which does less to convince her. Buck, Buddy, and Dr. Huer aren’t ready to leave Wilma to Harrier’s “tender” mercies, and plan to infiltrate the city with the help of Huer’s friend, the air pirate Black Barney.
What they got right: I love the characters in this comic. Black Barney (is he flying Duck Dodger’s ship? Please say yes, because that would be super-awesome!) is a nice addition to the cast.
What they got wrong: Cover “A” is really just the last panel of the last issue. That’s why I went with the “B” cover. Also, the story begins with another trip to Buck’s old friend, ex-girlfriend, and her..husband.., the jerk colonel we never need to see again. In fact, I don’t know why we needed to see either of them. Their part in the story, as far as I’m concerned, is done.
Recommendation: If your not reading this comic yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
