I’ve been threatening this for a few months now. I’ve mentioned working on a video review of a Godzilla movie. Part of a collaboration of video reviewers at the That Guy With The Glasses forum, I thought it would be interesting to see how the video half lives, and signed up to review a movie via video. Godzilla seems the best place to try, and with IDW’s Godzilla comic hitting shelves this week (review on Monday), this is a good time to post it.

The movie I ended up with is Godzilla Vs. King Ghidorah, the first appearance of Godzilla’s biggest foe since the reboot in the 1980’s. You’ll see how I learned the software as the video goes on, as well as a guest appearance by regular video reviewer The Illiterate Scholar, who usually reports on the latest dinosaur news. He’s a pro, but this is my first attempt at video reviewing, so be gentle with me. 🙂

By the way, it does go full screen.

[UPDATE: January, 2019: Now with closed captions!]

Since I already said everything about the movie in the video, I’ll talk about the review itself. As of this time the collaboration isn’t complete, so the fact that it took a rookie like me four months (hence the Christmas decorations in the early scenes) to do it doesn’t bother me quite so much. As things went on I learned more about how my software works, and at one point I actually started my editing over from scratch because I got myself confused the way I was doing it.

Not sure what happened with the audio on some of the movie clips. Perhaps as I go on I’ll figure it out. The artwork can be seen at my deviantART page. I never promised it would be a good drawing, but I don’t think it’s horrible, so there’s that. 🙂

The Illiterate Scholar hosts a show called Dinosaur News Center as part of the shows he does on his Blip page. The show is usually about the latest news in the world of dinosaur archeology, although on a slow news day he will review programs with dinosaurs. For the collaboration he reviewed Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack (there’s a mouthful for you), which features a very different version of Ghidorah. On his regular show, he ends the episode with viewer mail and that’s the idea we went with for him to discuss the first ever appearance of the Godzillasaurus. He sent me one video, but I split it just before the Gamera revelation and edited it into the video.

The game footage comes with the permission of the YouTuber who created it, Godzilla 2407. He does a lot of videos of Godzilla video games which is pretty cool.

I would like to thank everyone who helped me put this review together. So will I do another one? I actually do have a few ideas of things I could review easier in a video review rather than an article, but I plan to keep my focus on articles (which is easier for me) and my comic goals. Still, another source of promotion can be a good thing. I may not be the next Linkara or Tyler James but whatever promotes BW’s mission is good for me.

UPDATE: 8/19/2014> With my Blip account being canceled I moved the video to YouTube and added something I didn’t have before, a proper title card.
