In the 30’s, Mickey Mouse had his own comic strip. The 30’s were a simpler time, when people could shrink themselves while gardening, climb into storybooks to avoid killer flies, and have adventures with Robin Hood. That’s all the context you get this week, kids.

Marvelous Marvin round 2

The Battlefield: Mickey Mouse newspaper strip, reprinted in Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse – Free Comic Book Day (Gemstone Publishing, May 2007) “The Robin Hood Adventure”

The Promoters: Floyd Gottredson (story/art);  Ted Osborne(story), and Ted Thwaites (art)

So now Mickey has to join Robin Hood’s band of Merry Men, but first there are a series of tests. The first is to defeat Little John at the quaterstaff. (You’ll have to click the comic for a larger view.)

The Muppet Show already did the one good quarterstaff joke.

Will anyone be surprised when Mickey joins the Avengers? Not that I EVER want to see a Bendis-written Mickey Mouse, mind you.
