Young Justice #13
DC Comics (April, 2012)
“…AND THE PENALTY” WRITER: Greg Weisman PENCILER: Christopher Jones INKER: Dan Davis COLORIST: Zac Atkinson LETTERER: Dezi Sienty COVER: Jones & Atkinson ASSISTANT EDITOR: Sarah Gaydos EDITOR: Jim Chadwick
The team tracks Clayface…and gets their butts handed to them until Batman arrives. Meanwhile, goes undercover to try and learn what Icicle Jr. is wrapped up in.
What they got right: While there’s little to say about this issue, The primary story is the one we wanted to see last issue while the subplot involving Aqualad leads again into an episode of the show, “Downtime”, making this series a better tie-in to the animated series.
What they got wrong: Unless they’re also trying to continue the “ice-themed attack” bit from the first episode, Artemis’ part in this issue seems unnecessary. Also, they would have done a better job mixing the last issue and this one (without last issue’s time jumping, just the occasional flashback in a more linear fashion) as the story, while still interesting, felt a bit weaker than previous issues.
Recommendation: Once again a must-have for fans of the show.
This hasn’t been a good week for Best Scene nominations, has it? The problem boils down to each comic was good, but should be taken as a whole, with no one moment really standing out.
