He-Man & The Masters of the Universe #5
DC Comics (February, 2013)
“The Sword & The Sorceress” WRITER: Keith Giffen PENCILERS: Pop Mhan & Philip Tan INKER: Pop Mhan, Jim Charalampidis, and Lebeau Underwood COLORIST: Lee Loughridge & Jim Charalampus LETTERER: Saida Temofonte EDITOR: Michael McCalister COVER ART: Dave Wilkins
Adam finds a way to escape the cauldron (with Zoar’s help) and the path takes him into a confrontation with Battle Cat…and the Power Sword!
What they got right: Finally, the arrival of He-Man! And it only took five issues!
What they got wrong: Of a SIX issue mini-series. The placement of the Power Sword is also suspect, or rather it’s very convenient.
Recommendation: Final recommendation will depend on how this mini ends, but I am enjoying the telling at least. Worth a look.
The cover is one of the best ones of all the various MOTU comics I’ve seen. A fierce Battle Cat battling He-Man….the unexpected but a very powerful image. This story was outstanding in issue #5. Once again, Teela spends the whole issue in a bikini. This definitely isn’t the 1980s!
