Godzilla #11

“The War’s Not Over Until The Last Monster Goes Home!”
WRITER: Duane Swierczynski
ARTIST: Simon Gane
COLORIST: Ronda Pattison
SELECTED COVER: Bob Eggleton
LETTERER/CREATIVE CONSULTANT: Chris Mowry
EDITOR: Bobby Curnow

Boxer’s new team heads for New York to challenge Monster X in Mechagodzilla. Meanwhile, Godzilla battles Hedorah, Angurius and Rodan team-up against Gigan, and Batra fights Spacegodzilla.

What they got right: So many awesome kaiju battles and each gets a chance to look cool. The “good” monsters don’t win every battle, and although part of me would love it if they did there is a positive to the story as it makes the fights more thrilling, seeing who the last monster standing will be. And it could just be me, but the art for the monster actually seems to be better than last issue, although I’m pretty sure the same artist and colorist are here.

What they got wrong: In a huge kaiju battle story in the 11th issue of this storyline? Nothing. OK, maybe a minor nitpick. Godzilla uses his atomic breath to launch himself into the air. Not fly so much as “jump”. Hedorah must just bring it out of him?

Recommendation: If you’re able to get your hands on this and you haven’t yet, what kind of kaiju fan are you? Go get this thing already?

Yes, I'm giving Best Scene to Boxer, and yes it hurts. With a comic filled with giant monster battles I could use just one so I went off of the board.
