Adventures Of Superman #3
DC Comics (September, 2013)
“Faster Than A Bullet” WRITER: Matt Kindt ARTIST: Stephen Sagovia COLORIST: Jay David Ramos LETTERER: Wes Abbott EDITOR: Alex Antone “SUPERMAN” CREATORS: Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster
Superman’s day takes him into space to battle other threats, but one innocent life back on Earth may set the course of our planet’s future. Meanwhile, Lois is approached by Lex to assist in his upcoming bid for President.
What they got right: It’s nice to see Lois get to do something, and it sets up when this story takes place in post-Crisis/pre-52 continuity. I also like that this was a full issue story instead of a few shorts.
What they got wrong: There are attempts to make parallels between what Superman is doing and Lois’ conversation with Lex, but only a few times does it speak to the differences in their characters. Thus it isn’t as effective as in the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic which did something similar.
Recommendation: This is a good issue to decide if you can get into this anthology. The story is interesting, but I would like to see something other than a character study issue, or at least one that is more interested in Superman’s adventure. Nothing really stood out for Best Scene but that isn’t an insult. It just means nothing really stood out above the other moments.
