What happened to Oroku Saki between his last death and his modern resurrection? He went to hell…and of course tried to conquer it..and someday he may well regret it.

What they got right: My spiritual beliefs aside, this is an interesting concept. It shows that there may be a weakness to the Shredder after all and there’s a prophecy that will haunt him for time to come. Or maybe I’m surprised they found a story for him when his history was already covered in Secret History Of The Foot Clan.

What they got wrong: Wrong is a stretch, because any problems I have with the art style may well be personal taste. It kind of works for the afterlife flashback, but the real world, as Saki tells his take to Kitsune doesn’t work as well for me.

Recommendation: Somebody tell Johns that if you want to tell the tale of the bad guys and make them interesting, this is how you do it. They’re still evil and motivated by personal interests only but they’re still interesting without trying to make them the real heroes. Grab this series if your following the IDW Turtleverse.
