Battlestar Galactica: Cylon Apocalypse #1
Dynamite (2007)
WRITER: Javier Grillo-Marxuach ARTIST (including selected cover): Carlos Rafael COLORIST: Carlos Lopez LETTERER: Bill Tortolini
A wormhole is broadcasting signals from Earth. To get past it, however, they will have to get past a whole planet of Cylons. Meanwhile, Apollo and Starbuck find a bunch of reanimated Cylons cover in some kind of biological component and the Cylons want it back bad enough to invade the Battlestar to get to it!
What they got right: The Carloses Rafael & Lopez nail the art again. I don’t know why I don’t hear their name more often in discussions of modern comic artists. I like the story idea of experiments by a rogue Cylon scientist and a mystery surrounding it.
What they got wrong: I know it’s not the same writer, but the last issue ended with a Cylon invasion and the first one of this series (set well after the previous one I think, since Serina is gone and Sheba is present) also ends with Cylons invading. And how they heck did they sneak close enough to the Galactica for a sneak attack? Is the stealth thing another experiment because it never showed up in the show as far as I recall.
Recommendation: It’s off to a good start. Hopefully it stays that way.
