CNet’s “clickbait” title about Robert Beltram, who played Chakotay on Star Trek: Voyager, thinking the Prime Directive is “fascist crap” sadly doesn’t go into a lot of detail. However, it’s interesting to see someone who worked on the show hates it as much as many fans do.

That’s an interesting perspective, though I’d agree more with his reasoning behind it than the label he sticks on it. Although IMO it’s still hard to shake the concept that the Prime Directive is an update of ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’. (And anyway, how often did Janeway pay attention to it? 😉 )
Species 90210 sounds better. Poking fun at it, anyway. It bugs me that they just stuck with the old Borg designation, long after the species’ debut, which manages to be dull and dry, and also a cluttered, confusing mouthful. Spe-cies-eight-four-se-ven-two. It’d be like remembering your PIN for the cash machine. Most of the time you’d get it right, but when you’re distracted (like, say, when you’re being attacked by deadly milking-stool aliens from beyond the universe)… “Captain! It’s Species Eight-Four-Two… shoot! I should know this. Eight-Four… Eight-Four… Seven-Two! That’s it! Oh, by the way, in the meantime, shields are at zero percent, warp nacelles are down, and we have hull breaches on decks three, five, ten and fourteen.”

Dry and dull? Sounds like Voyager. Film Theory on YouTube just posted a video about the Federation being fascist. Parts of what he says makes sense, but I think SF Debris broke down the Prime Directive’s problems better, as well as the lack of currency.
