Don’t worry. Nobody’s joined a cult. I think.
During last year’s medical nightmare I missed out on a lot of things going on. One of those things I happened to stumble on recently, a crowdfunded movie starting numerous Power Ranger actors called The Order. As you’ll see in the trailer, this has nothing to do with Power Rangers. Just the gang getting together and having fun and games even after someone loses an eye. Just watch; you’ll see what I mean.
This isn’t anything new. Movies have brought casts back together in unrelated projects before. Doctor Who actors got together for a movie about the Sontarans and didn’t play their original roles, as well as a rather weak environmental movie that featured four different Doctors. There’s a Star Trek fanfilm by Tim Tuvoy, who played Tuvok on Voyager, that featured other Star Trek actors both reprising roles and being new characters. It’s not without precedent. Being on the same show, even if you didn’t perform together, and then the show having the popularity of Power Rangers put you in a specific group. You become friends, and this is a group of friends making a movie together. It’s just they have a huge lot of fans who would be willing to see them together, even in an unrelated project. It’s also good timing, with the re-imagined (that word haunts my nightmares!) Power Rangers movie coming to theaters.
So what’s The Order about? I’m not completely sure. The URL in the trailer goes to the Indiegogo page, where they did more than their intended goal. I think they’re going to actually have a physical copy now instead of just an online version. The problem is, and it’s not surprising for a crowdfunding site to not give away too much as compared to an actual website that can have character and cast bios and other stuff, it’s very light on plot summary. I don’t expect the full movie, but we don’t know a lot about the conflict between these two groups. It does have the full cast list, but only as images. Therefore this is all we get.
The Order is an action packed movie that follows a covert group of vigilantes. This group is often times the shadow to groups like the FBI and CIA.
The men and women of The Order, are trained, living weapons. They operate in secret. They have dedicated their lives to eliminating violent threats and imminent disasters. Their one focus is to fight to keep humanity safe from complete societal breakdown and maintain world order.
The Order has faced the worst of enemies, but are crippled by the discovery that this world assault they now face, is being lead by some of their very own.
Throw everything you thought you knew out the the window, you won’t know the good guys from the bad.
That’s true at least. I’m only guessing at it here, but my money’s on eyepatch and his friends being the threat since their boss is talking about letting the world burn and he has a vendetta for being left behind. That’s usually where the villain comes in. As you saw, actors from many different Power Rangers shows, not just Mighty Morphin’, are involved in the project, although I admit I don’t recognize all of them. Some were at ConnectiCon a couple of years ago and others have still appeared in stuff I’ve at least caught wind of. Johnny Yong Bosch mostly does voice acting and I liked him as Bumblebee in Transformers: War For Cybertron, a game I really want to finish.
Karan Ashley, the second Yellow Ranger, brought the gang together and wrote the movie, and even managed to get Brad Hawkins, from fellow Sabanized Japanese show VR Troopers, as well as Nichelle Nichols and Marina Sirtis from Star Trek. However, it is being billed as a Power Rangers reunion despite not being very Power Ranger-esque. I wish I knew more about it because cool as all this it, it’s not enough to really pump me up. But for a low-budget movie it looks good and we know it has a good cast. They’ve acted before and quite a few of them have acted with each other, even as cameos if not full Ranger series. I may well check it out if I get the chance but I know some of you Ranger fans are just happy to see them all together in a movie.
