Always a third wheel, Baron?

“Unstable Elements!”

WRITER: Kurt Busiek

PENCILER: Mark Bagley

LETTERER: Dave Lanphear & OG

EDITOR: Tom Brevoort

SHIELD is trying to figure out what happened to Baron Zemo, unaware that he’s currently “playing” Citizen V. And he’s not happy seeing Meteorite and Jolt bond while Abe and Melissa get closer as a couple and Atlas is getting closer to Dallas. Meanwhile, Techno learns that Atlas’s powers are now solely tied to the iconic energies that first turned him into Power Man, only now they’ve replace the Pym Particles he used when he became Goliath. Then the Elements Of Doom return and start causing mayhem. Citizen V forces MACH-1 and Songbird apart as part of two teams to stop the Elements assaults. MACH-1 is forced to land an airliner remotely to stop one group, and they soon join the others in chasing off the Elements attacking Madison Square Garden. Learning that the Avengers once fought the Elements and under the cover of not endangering his team, Citizen V demands the Avengers files and security clearance…or the Thunderbolts won’t help anyone anymore!

What they got right: Jolt wanting to keep people from suffering like she did at the hands of Aram Zola makes sense for her character and is good motivation. Atlas gets some alterations to his powers which helps his guise a bit more. And I can see Zemo using this situation to his advantage. Plus the fights were darn good!

What they got wrong: I really don’t have any complaints about this one.

Recommendation: This is still a great run. It’s worth checking out.
