Dungeons & Dragons (album)

I was not a player of Dungeons And Dragons nor did I really watch the cartoon. I rarely deal with fantasy and I’m not much into the darker themes of the game. But I do know enough people out there were into the cartoon and might like to see this one.

The game takes place in some fantasy world with monsters and stuff. That’s all I know about that. CBS aired a three-season animated series in which a group of kids taking a ride on a Dungeons And Dragons carnival ride end up transported to that realm (although a bit more Saturday Morning friendly) where they take on the various classes and have to protect their magic weapons from an evil wizard while trying to get home. Unless you know more than that you may not get into tonight’s posting. The show was produced by Marvel Productions (Marvel’s animation wing at the time) with animation by Toei. However the last episode was never produced for whatever reason. That’s strange considering it was the series finale.

As part of the DVD release of the series an audio drama was produced based on that last script. One person on YouTube combined that audio with images of a fancomic adaptation (the script was released online). So for those of you who were fans of the cartoon here’s your chance to find out how this ends. Now I know it’s a Saturday morning cartoon script but I don’t know what changes were made in the script or by the artist but this should be friendly for any child you would let watch the cartoon, even without CBS’s censors going over it. Like I said, it’s not interesting to me but sometimes you do something good for your readers.

By the way the poster of the video added a link to a translation of the fancomic (it’s a Portuguese comic) if you want to check that out.

Thank you for posting this video, Tronix. I like the artwork of the fan comic. It helps us see what the cartoon version Dungeons and Dragons comic book would have been like if it had been released in the 1980s. There were three different Dungeons and Dragons comic book titles produced by DC in collaboration with DC in the late 1980s and early 1990s (Dungeons and Dragons, Dragonlance, and I forget the 3rd title), but those comics were very different from the cartoon version of D and D. It was awesome to hear this script read with a baritone narrator and even the other characters’ voices in it. Now I finally know what the last projected episode of the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon was meant to be like. Even so, I am disappointed that I still don’t know whether the kids went back to their home or stayed in the Realm of Dungeons and Dragons. The Dungeon Master gave them a choice at the end, and we are still left hanging as to what decision they made!!!!! One last thing I noticed is that Michael Reaves, the writer of this script and other scripts for the D and D cartoon, is probably the same Michael Reaves who wrote the stories for some of the Blackstar episodes produced by Filmation.

That should have been written as “comic book titles produced by DC in collaboration with TSR …” Sorry, my editing error.
