Martin Scorsese doesn’t like superhero movies and made his thoughts known. While I think it’s a bit harsh to say they aren’t cinema, he’s not wrong to not like superhero movies. I don’t like the movies he’s made, and that’s a lesser problem I have with the Joker movie, that Philips was trying to do a Scorsese movie and basically has also said he doesn’t like superheroes. So don’t make superhero movies. Simple answer there. However, the fans of superhero movies took it poorly, especially fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who were convinced he meant the MCU specifically because that’s how it was reported, at least in articles I saw. My fellow former Reviewers Unknown contributor Writrzblok makes the case that maybe the fans shouldn’t have treated this the same way they did when Roger Ebert make the mistake of saying video games aren’t art.
