Come on, Shaggy, this is how ALL your vacations go.

Scooby-Doo #2

Archie Comics (November, 1995)

“When Scooby Comes Marching Home” and “The Abominable Skiman!”

The only credits given are “Kirschenbaum – Morison – Alcala”

The first story has the gang going undercover again, this time in the military when a ghost is trying to change the commanding officer into himself. Fred, Scooby, and Shaggy become soldiers while Scrappy puts on a wig to join Daphne and Velma as USO singers. The second tale has the gang visiting a friend of Fred’s (how many friends around the world do these people have?) whose ski lodge is under siege by a skiing yeti.

This comic has the same problem as last issue in that they seem more interested in making jokes and wacky situations than they do a mystery. Using both seasons of Scooby And Scrappy-Doo as my example, the first season was still a typical Scooby-Doo mystery story, just with Scrappy added to the cast, while the second just had Shaggy and the dogs on wacky adventures. This is trying to do the second season while pretending it’s a mystery like the first and it isn’t very good at either. The comedy isn’t funny and the mystery is still tacked on.

We will see some good stories in this run but only when a certain guest writer shows up. The rest of the time this series is just not that good, and it’s a shame the only run with Scrappy in it is this bad.
