After the collected heroes stop the prison break a few villains are found to have escaped. Cap has to stop Cage from beating the Purple Man to a pulp when the villain’s powers are still inactive. In the morning Steve and Tony talk and Steve convinces him to at least try to get past his fears post-“Disassembled” and form a new Avengers team of the heroes that were there. Luke is talked into it so he can tell his daughter that he was an Avenger once, Spider-Man does it because he can’t say no to Cap, Daredevil refuses because of his current situation with his secret identity being exposed, and Jessica Drew agrees…but is she actually spying on both SHIELD and this new team of Avengers? They aren’t the ones responsible for the prison break but what is their agenda?

What they got right: Bendis has decided to create the team based solely on who he wants to write and that’s fine. If he weren’t Bendis this is actually a decent line-up even if only three of them are major players in the Marvel universe on the reader side. We finally have characters in the daylight so I can finally see that the art isn’t bad.

What they got wrong: Why is Tony wearing his armor sans helmet while Captain America is in his civvies? He still writes Luke Cage wrong. This should be the last chapter of this story arc but there are three more chapters after this. The ending feels like the end of the storyline but it isn’t. We really don’t get to see the final battle outside of Luke pounding Kilgrave to a pulp. We open with Steve and Tony talking, flashback to that scene, then the Sentry shows up, back to present. That is not how you end things.

Recommendation: So far I’m not very impressed with this story. I can’t really recommend getting it right now.
