Stopping at a pet store to get Scooby a bath, the gang meet Magilla Gorilla, the store owner Mr. Peebles, and Magilla’s friend Ogee. Magilla gets bought by a mad scientist, which the gang learns is for head-swapping science experiments. After the kind of crazy you’d expect with that plot the scientist is defeated and everyone gets their head back…though Mr. Peebles is going to have some weird animals to sell at the shop.
What they got right: No mention of crooked real estate developers, though we still get a bit about them removing masks. At least the use of “meddling kids” was fresh. Otherwise it’s a Magilla Gorilla tale that happens to feature the Scooby gang, but then I don’t see Mr. Peebles and Ogee going to a mad scientist castle without some back-up.
What they got wrong: I mean, there’s no mystery here, but that’s par for the course with DC’s Scooby-Doo stories.
What I think overall: At least it’s a fun team-up story. I liked it. Though now that they’re meeting good gorillas it’s too bad we didn’t get a Grape Ape team-up.
