Leave it to Eggman to find a convoluted way to pirate TV shows.

Sonic X #24

Archie Comics (November, 2007)

“Camera Hog”

WRITER/PENCILER: Tracy Yardley

INKER: Terry Austin

COLORIST: Josh Ray

LETTERER: John Workman

EDITOR: Mike Pellerito

Sonic, Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Chris, and Uncle Chuck appear on a talk show that includes an obstacle course for the dimension-displaced heroes to show off their skills. Eggman takes over the station to record their course run as data for a new robot he hopes will defeat the heroes by mimicking their own special talents. The plan backfires when Sonic cools his ego and the quartet come up with a plan to defeat the robot.

What they got right: The plot itself is actually a good one. Sure, it’s been done before but there’s a reason it keeps coming up. It’s a good way to really show what the heroes can do when confronted by in essence themselves. It’s kind of cute that when the robot goes into “Amy Mode” it shares her overriding crush on Sonic.

What they got wrong: However, the story really doesn’t do anything to stand out. I’m also starting to notice how often Bokkun is shown only stuffing his face. I don’t remember him eating that much.

What I think overall: For a kid who has never seen this idea before the story might be okay, but for more longtime story consumers there is nothing here that hasn’t been done better elsewhere.
