Sonic attacks a Swatbot, not realizing it’s actually Tails in disguise, and later using the robot as armor to save Sonic when he fails to get the drop on Robotnik. Tails also uses the Swatbot shell’s guns to destroy the controls. Robotnik counters with a giant “Silver Sonic” robot and his “Eggs-O-Skeleton”, but Sonic follows Tails’ example and turns Silver Sonic into a mech under his control. The Death Egg is destroyed and our duo manages to escape with hopefully enough magic rings to help the King’s condition.

What they got right: Tails gets to be awesome. Too bad he didn’t keep and modify the Swatbot shell into a proper armor. Forget Captain Super Fox Man, give me Iron Miles! The battle between Silver Sonic and the exoskeletoned Robotnik was okay, and our heroes get what they need to help the King. Wins all around for the good guys!

What they got wrong: More bad puns and Earth cultural references. You just can’t help yourself, can you Mike? Also, Tails should have been on the cover instead of Knuckles because all he does is have the Chaotix check on the damage to the Floating Island after Tails forces the ship into space rather than continuing to force it underwater.

What I think overall: I’m not sure why this needed to be a separate miniseries, or why they give it two names when “Sonic Quest” has no sequels and “The Death Egg Saga” was confined to this miniseries. It’s a decent story overall though. Granted I mostly like it because my favorite character got to be awesome. 🙂
