Bass infiltrates Dr. Light’s lab and steal information on Rush’s latest upgrade for Wily, who were told in a news story (by a reporter who goes to Chun-Li’s hairstylist apparently) just got out of prison. He’s met by Proto Man (who for some reason gave his shield to Mega Man) and battles him to a stalemate, Bass escaping when Mega Man investigates.
Not much to review here. It’s a huge battle between Proto Man and Bass by one of the best comic art studios in the business. The characters are on model, we see Bass’s arrogance and Proto Man’s cleverness. I really enjoyed it.
The back-up takes place in the cyberworld of Mega Man Battle Network (or NT Warrior depending on what translation you run with, but the former was the game.) Megaman.EXE is sparring with Gutsman.EXE to test Guts’ new upgrades until Cutman.EXE tries to get revenge on Mega. Apparently nobody told him this version of Gutsman isn’t on his team, and he chases Cutman off, Protoman.EXE arriving just a bit late while chasing him. As he pursues the rogue navi, Bass.EXE is watching, curious about “the blue one”.
This one is also primarily a fight scene, but a shorter one as some time is given to introduce Megaman, Cutman, and their friends as well as their human partners in the real world. There’s also a teaser ad for a Doctor Wily solo comic, one for Megaman X (who I guess they couldn’t fit in here), two collections of the UDON Mega Man comics, and a “Timelines” hardcover.
So far I’ve enjoyed UDON’s Street Fighter work (more on that tomorrow) but I see their Mega Man is just as good. I wouldn’t mind getting that series.
