The Turtles update Splinter and April on current events. Shredder and Krang made contact with Skeletor and they’ve been swapping mutagen for magic. The Turtles tried to interfere and were sent to Eternia just as He-Man disappeared. Joining with the Heroic Warriors, the Turtles attacked the combined evil forces and appear to be winning. Unfortunately, Skeletor has been using a slime pit for his mutating, and that stuff turns good men evil, even He-Man! As they prepare to fight the infected and mutated hero, Renet the time mistress is trying to undo the multiversal damage and ends up at that time when the Turtles were on the Triceraton homeworld ship, only this time the “all-stars” have a normal He-Man on their team.
What they got right: I didn’t even know there was a first story, so the catch-up was well appreciated. The art is nice, and the mutated version of the Foot and Evil Warriors are nice designs.
What they got wrong: Inspiration seems to be all over the place. Shredder, Krang, and April seem to be the 80s cartoon version, the Eternia folks partly 1980s and partly 2000s, Renet is from the original comics, while the Triceratons could be either the Mirage comics or the 2003 cartoon, and I couldn’t even guess where the Turtles themselves come from.
What I think overall: There is a crossover toyline tied to this story since Masters Of The Universe and Ninja Turtles both seem to be crossing over with everyone lately. The story’s okay but there isn’t much of it due to exposition and set-up being the focus. I’m still curious about the full story, but I’m not getting it here.
