Because regardless of your opinion of the movie, and mine was low when he took the myth out of the mythology, let’s be honest about box office numbers, even if you don’t like the answer.

I went with my family on Sunday, and am slowly working through the source material (and the Iliad). From what I could tell, Nolan indeed took a few liberties with adapting the myth (I don’t think Hades was an island in the middle of the Mediterranean), but they served his theme quite well. The standout performers are Matt Damon and Tom Holland, but Lupita Nyongo as Helen/Clytemnestra deserves more praise than she’s gotten, and the rest keep things moving. John Leguizamo as the blind shepherd turned in probably the best performance; between this film and that UFO show on “The Network,” he has fast become the least typecast actor of his generation. (That being said, he is doing Sid one more time in “Ice Age: Boling Point” next February. Herd Nerds rejoice, I guess?) My dad loved the pacing; for a three-hour movie, it sure doesn’t feel like one (*kaff, The Hobbit, kaff*).
