There’s a new video game review site, simply titled VideoGamesCritic. The site maintains their focus is on the gamer and their review rather than only allowing mainstream reviews to be counted. They’re still there, but now everybody gets to rate a game and the professional critics’ voices do not drown out people who actually played the game and have a completely different point of view, plus as a game gets updates so does the score. Meanwhile, mainstream sites make their review and move on due to sheer volume.
As Geeks & Gamers, itself a website that includes video game discussion among other media, reports, the site’s big controversy is that it compares the pro reviews with the amateur reviews from gamers, listing when they differ, essentially reviewing the reviewer. As contributor Marvin Martinaro points out, all that means is exposing the site’s biases so that you can make an informed decision about the reviews whether you agree with those biases or not. That’s not how reporters from the pro sites see it, but as I’ve said more than once, no reviewer (myself included) is without bias and personal preference. All we can do is give our opinion and you the audience decides what our opinion is worth to you. This follows projects like Criticless, where the pros are cast aside entirely in favor of the general public.
