“Worlds Collide” finale WRITER: Simon Furman PENCILER: Don Figueroa INKERS: Elaine To & Rob Armstrong COLORISTS: David Cheung, Eric Burns, & Rob Ruffolo LETTERER: Ben LeeEven I have a version of Angry Birds on my tablet, Seasons to be exact. (I don’t have a smartphone before you ask.) So I’m familiar with the game in which you catapult birds at structures to flatten pig heads. A trailer just launched for a movie based on this game. On the plus side it isn’t grim and gritty or live-action. I’m not sure it captures the feel of the games, though.
Transformers: Micromasters #2
Dreamwave (July, 2004)
“The Gray Race” WRITERS: James “Brad Mick” McDonough & Adam Patyk PENCILER: Rob Ruffolo INKERS: Erik Sander & Rob Armstrong COLORISTS: David Cheung & Josh Perez LETTERER: Ben LeeWhile I’ve never seen the movies or read the manga (except for a preview in a magazine I had), Ghost In The Shell is one of my favorite anime productions thanks to the Stand Alone Complex television series. which I highly recommend. As part of the Did You Know: Anime series, the DYK researchers look at some interesting facts about the manga and the first two movies, and their impact on Hollywood. The guest narrator (the various “Did You Know” shows all have guest narrators) is also interesting, as instead of an internet personality they got Richard Epcar, who voiced Batou, one of the characters from the franchise, in the English dub.
Super Mario Bros #2
Valiant/Nintendo Comics System (1990)
John Costanza; P. Zorito; The Gradations “Magic Carpet Madness” John Walker; Jade “The Kingdom Enquirer” Bill Vallely; Mark McClellan; Pat Brousseau; Andrea BrooksWith a new movie on the way it’s no surprise that Marvel (who seems to be letting the movie studio dictate the comic studio) would want the Black Panther back on comic shelves. I’m a little wary of this. While T’Challa is a great, underused character in a comic world lacking in superheroes of color, it’s been hard for Marvel to find a creative team that could make it work for very long, hence the reason they have to create a new one. They’ve tried as often as their versions of Captain Marvel or the Silver Surfer. And the writer coming in comes from novels, which is hit or miss for comic writing. Still, I hope it works for them, since they need more black superheroes.
