Here’s what I wrote in the comments (By the way, check them out; the letter writer actually is the person Sasha thought it was):
I’m the guy who usually defends mascot characters, including the Wonder Twins, but Wendy and Marvin really weren’t the best fit. I don’t think it helped that the first season suffered from a few problems. It was the lowest budget animation of the whole series, the villains were usually well-meaning but took extreme measures they were later sorry for, and none of the super villains show up nor did they create any new ones like later Super Friends would in between the usual DC universe baddies. They did seem to do the majority of the investigating while the Justice League (they’d be called by both names until the Super Powers Team rebrand) would deal with the villains’ actions, doing more rescues that crimefighting.
I don’t think the Junior Super Friends deserve all this hate, especially poor Marvin, and I’m glad to hear Young Justice made better use of them (although I can’t see it since it moved to DC Universe and now HBO Max) and I’ll all for a Wendy/Marvin romance if they aren’t siblings but the Wonder Twins, as junior heroes in training, were a much better fit. Frankly they should make them detectives. Detectives in a superhero universe without powers or Batman-level gadgets and training could be fun. DC in the 21st century hates fun.
Also, I’m going to be that guy and point out killer Wonderdog wasn’t even the same breed of dog that he was in the show and if it wasn’t for his Scooby-Doo Team-Up appearance he wouldn’t even exist anymore and that’s too bad. Given Marvin back his dog. And his internal organs. And his life.
Before you start I’m not condemning anything here. I know why it’s being done, that it has to be done, and the problem is with me personally, not what they’re doing. Are we clear? This is a ME problem, not a Best Brains problem!
The official trailer is out for the official launch of the newest home for Mystery Science Theater 3000, the online MST-only “Gizmoplex”, named for bad guy company Gizmonic Institute. The site will be the new home of all things MST3k, from the original series from Comedy Central and Sci-Fi Channel to the revival from Netflix to the brand new web-exclusive season. For most Mystery Science fans this is awesome. It’s possible they won’t have to worry about which network or service is airing one of their favorite shows. In theory I think it’s cool as well, and it’s certainly good for Best Brains, the production company that creates the show. And yet if I understand what’s going on correctly I’m going to be missing out.
They forgot to list a colorist. Comics.org points to Kevin Somers but the gag credits seem to be reserved for editorial credits, so why credit the colorist with one when none of the other creators had one?
I don’t usually bother with the backstage drama. BW Media Spotlight is about looking at the end product, the story itself in whatever format I’m reviewing. I could have put this over at The Tronix Tumblr, if I ever used the darn thing and I probably should find an actual use for that besides promoting BW and Clutter Report posts and occasional reblogging. However, this was a topic I wanted to get the wider view on not because I want to join the throng defending or condemning the people in question. It’s more about getting past the anger and get to the heart of why this is troubling, because while the lady in question made a few good points she also got a whole lot wrong, and I want to cull the good from the bad and try to bring some discussion to this “debate” rather than something built solely on emotion. Also I wanted to point out some parts of G4 history everyone on both sides seems to have forgotten. This isn’t going to be another Frosk hit piece, but it’s not quite a defense either. Instead I want to put this discussion into perspective from a relatively unbiased view.
Now I wasn’t there for the Tech TV days or the merger. I’m not some G4 historian so if a fact or two is wrong understand I barely remember what I had for breakfast yesterday. I’m also not going to be doing a deep dive into what happened with G4 host Indiana “Froskurinn” Black (aka “Frosk”). If you aren’t aware of the situation to this point I posted a video by Midnight’s Edge earlier today that goes over all of that. Once you’re caught up with the rest of us, let’s go over by G4’s and Frosk’s actions were a bit overboard and how their recent “course correct” totally missed the point and just brought back Spike TV lite memories. Remember that period?
My Attempt To Make Sense Of The G4 2022 Debacle
