We’re discussing the leaked Avengers: Doomsday. If you don’t want to be spoiled, bookmark this and come back if it turns out to be right.
And we’ve seen evidence in the now official advertising material that points a bunch of it out to be right. Which means, and if you’re coming in on the homepage I’ll keep the spoiler until after the jump, Odds are this is going to be right.
That means that the motivation of the villain in the story…yeah, we all know it’s Doctor Doom as played by Tony Stark’s actor…may also be accurate. It’s one following the Marvel Studio post-buyout tradition of knowing absolutely nothing about the characters they’re adapting and believing that to be a good thing. Because they’re snobby ego-driven morons who just want to tell their story using things people like for easy marketing…but now I’m just padding out the homepage. There’s a secondary threat with their own motivation that is character assassination straight out of the comic storyline that barely inspired this one, but that’s another discussion.
This is going to be short on the homepage, but I can’t get into even the thesis of this post without spoilers. Suffice to say Hollywood and modern writers are making the same mistake yet again, not only misunderstanding the point of a villain in stories, but completely missing the pettiness and narcissism that is “Doctor” Victor Von Doom. Because today’s writers refuse to stop….

I chose that article title because both movies do have Tom and Zendaya Holland (yeah, she might not use his name, but they’re married) in it at one point. Otherwise I’d have focused on Brand New Day beating Not-So-Supergirl or how it shows the flaw in the “superhero fatigue” narrative when you think about it.

Chapter By Chapter (usually) features me reading one chapter of the selected book at a time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as a read-along book club.
In the previous chapter we met some of the newest supporting cast to the author’s take on Vulcans. I have never read an interview with Lorrah so I don’t know why she was so interested in Vulcan versus Earthling culture and how it pertains to romance, or creating a group who rejects Vulcans’ logic pursuit when we already have the Romulans. Regardless, this is at least her second time in this area and I enjoyed the last one. I even enjoyed this one enough to get the last one so many years ago even though this is only the second time I’ve gotten to read this novel.
This chapter will be taking us back to the Enterprise. One advantage books have over television is they don’t have to worry about building sets, hiring actors, or creating and applying alien make-up prosthetics. So they can get away with following other characters, creating different aliens by building on the races we already know from the show, and having locations that might not be easy with a 1960s TV budget. A good writer makes it appear in your mind, something I’m not so good at. Yes, that’s why I fell more into making comics. I just have to show you.
This is a rather short chapter, only four pages. Unlike…a few other novels I’ve reviewed for Chapter By Chapter, it’s not too bad so long as it doesn’t become a habit like those books. Plus I’m low on time today so it’s to my advantage. I like when that happens.

No sense linking to The Clutter Reports this week, though I will out of habit if I remember. I went to a carnival so I could get out of the house for something other than shopping and medical reasons. Legs were sore, but I did help my dad with his computer stuff. Also, I’m out of buffer over there and getting low over here. Need to work on that.
This week we have the next Chapter By Chapter review of Star Trek: The IDIC Epidemic. There isn’t as much to update with the current schedule given the necessarily reduced format since I don’t know what I’m going to do until I read the news of the day. We’ll learn together. Spider-Man’s Brand New Ruining Of Jean Grey
So it appears that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a huge hit. The box office for the latest live-action Spidey flick in the MCU is doing so good, it’s already shown up both of DC’s “super” movies by having the superhero be a hero, and one you’d want to emulate. Not because of the powers. Spider-Man has a whole group of people who share his powers, some of whom aren’t clones of Peter Parker or born of Venom’s symbiote, and once all of Manhattan had spider powers. On the spider side (not to be confused with Spidercide) There is nothing but praise from this movie because people are so happy to have a heroic superhero, and previously just happy to get Marvel’s flagship character in the MCU, that all adaptation errors have been forgiven it. So a win for storytelling, but a loss for proper adaptation if you’re a comic fan.
Also taking a loss? The mutants. Possibly.
While Peter’s journey has been getting mostly thumbs up, the treatment of–I guess isn’t a secret anymore, even though it wasn’t a well kept one–Jean Grey follows a disturbing trend that follows Scarlet Witch lately in both comics and especially the MCU: if you have trauma and present as female you’re allowed to do all the horrible things you want in order to achieve a goal of regaining your family. In Jean’s case it’s trying to get back her sister, and she’ll kill any innocent she can use to get her back or stop Spider-Man from stopping her. Even I know that’s against Jean Grey’s character and I have little interest in the X-side of the Marvel universe.
So imagine someone like JesterBell, who loves the might mutants, and how upset she was that Jean was such a horrible person, which could be a foreshadowing (my cousin’s in trouble again) of what’s to come once the MCU absorbs all over media continuities into it’s solo universe, DC Crisis style? Well, you don’t have to imagine because she took to a 40+ minute video to go over everything wrong with Jean Grey and Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and why, as an X-Men fan, she would rather Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, with or without Sony, NOT make an X-Men film if this is what she’s going against. I have some bonus thoughts, but let’s let the expert make her case first.
