10 Facts About “A Charlie Brown Christmas”

A Charlie Brown Christmas is a holiday classic. Originally airing on CBS, who would go on to produce more Peanuts holiday and non-holiday specials as well as the Saturday Morning series The Charlie Brown And Snoopy Show, the special is now a regular on ABC for whatever reason. It’s still a must-watch for many at Christmastime.

Like anything popular facts and rumors both make their way into trivia about the special. In 2015, to honor the show’s anniversary YouTuber Marlar House decided to look at ten facts to see which were truths and which were turkeys. You may learn something.

BW’s Morning Video: Shout Factory’s Terrahawks Marathon

“The Terrahawks marathon begins Wednesday, January 1 at 12 a.m. PT and continues through New Year’s Day. The stream can be viewed on http://www.ShoutFactoryTV.com along with Shout! Factory TV’s Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and Android apps; and the following digital streaming platforms: Twitch, Samsung TV Plus, Xumo, and STIRR.”

The series was the last of Gerry Anderson’s “Supermarionation” and at least here in the US isn’t as well known as Thunderbirds or even Captain Scarlet & The Mysterons so here’s your chance to see a show you hadn’t before. Oddly they didn’t list Pluto TV, which also has a Shout Factory channel but I presume it will be there as well unless something happened I’m not aware of.

Actors And The False Superhero Stigma

I was not among the voices of those whose gut reaction to having Robert Pattinson play Batman in the upcoming The Batman movie. Coming down on him for one character, Edward of the Twilight franchise, seemed a bit harsh since that’s not all he’s done. Since the movies finished Pattinson has done other movies, mostly indie films. I don’t know what else he can do so based on one character I’m not going to say he’s wrong for the part. There was an uproar against Michael Keaton playing the role and there wasn’t even an internet yet, at least not as we know it today.

However, a recent article I came across is giving me room to doubt. Pattinson seems to be trying to distance himself from the concept of superheroes by declaring that Batman is not actually a superhero. This is line with recent comments by Bree Larson that when she signed on to play Carol Danvers for Captain Marvel for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that she isn’t playing a hero, she’s playing a “person”. (Check out any video by YouTuber Mecharandom 42 that even mentions Brie Larson and you’ll see that clip.) Meanwhile, supervillains aren’t immune because of how the people behind the Joker movie approached that film. So why is it the public wants to see superhero stories but Hollywood increasingly doesn’t want to make them?

Chapter By Chapter: The Merry Adv Of Robin Hood final part ch. 1

Chapter By Chapter features me reading one chapter of the selected book at the time and reviewing it as if I were reviewing an episode of a TV show or an issue of a comic. There will be spoilers if you haven’t read to the point I have, and if you’ve read further I ask that you don’t spoil anything further into the book. Think of it as read-along book club.

Remember, the book is in public domain. Download or read the ebook online legally and for free at Project Gutenberg, Google Books or the Internet Archive among other sites, or check out the audiobook from LibriVox. You can also use a print copy. In either case my copy may not match up with yours chapter-wise. Follow along with the very-long subtitle. For this chapter:

The FINAL Part

Recounting how Robin Hood met Guy Of Gisbourne In Sherwood Forest and of the famous fight between them. Also how Little John fell into the Sheriff’s hands through saving the life of three men. Likewise how Good King Richard of the Lion’s Heart came to Nottinghamshire and visited Robin Hood In Sherwood Forest.

Well, here we are at the penultimate (yes, I do like that word) chapter of our book. Now that we’re all caught up with the part left out of my copy it’s time to get ready to complete the book. Guy Of Gisborune is another character that made it into Hollywood and other TV versions of Robin Hood’s legend, in some cases replacing or becoming the Sheriff Of Nottingham. As far as King Richard we won’t meet him until next time so let’s see what the guy named Guy is going to do to our protagonists. (“Heroes” may be stretching things a bit.)

First let me remind you where we left off before our trip back through time. With the help of Sir Richard and the queen that you can kind of accuse of causing the whole mess (although most of the blame goes to the Bishop) Robin Hood barely escaped King Henry’s wrath. Has Robin learned anything from this? History brings that into doubt though the chapter starts with Robin admitting to not being so bold that he can’t escape into Sherwood by being too far away. Let’s see how long that lasts because although Henry had died and King Richard (always king in more modern telling but only now obtaining the crown in this book from the 1880s) is now upon the throne Robin and crew still have their share of enemies. Plus they’re pretty good at creating new ones.
