BW’s Morning Article Link: The Orville Goes Hulu

The Orville is a good show. For fans of classic Star Trek it has become Star Trek since unlike what Bad Robot has been making for Paramount and CBS it has all the qualities Trek is known for and won it such universal praise. However, it will soon be leaving Fox to become a Hulu exclusive. I guess Disney/Fox wants to do with that show what CBS has tried to do with its Trek shows to promote their streaming service. Of course those of us who can’t afford it will now miss out on season 3. Thanks a lot!

Was this really worth it just to get the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Jake & Leon #417: Bizarrdio

When you go to Comic-Con and celebrate the local audience NOT buying a product you sell, this is the only answer that fits.

I spelled it wrong in the comic title. It should be two “r”s, not two “z”s. But seriously, at this year’s San Diego Comic Con during the DC panel DiDio asks his audience if they were buying the replica comics I didn’t even know about until an article about this exchange (which means DC isn’t promoting them very well) and was happy when they said no because he is only interested in his darkened Marvel-esque DC Universe. I have to agree with this commentary about how DiDio isn’t understanding the problem. I’m not saying he’s a bad writer or publisher, I’m saying he’s wrong for the DC Universe.

Over at The Clutter Reports this week one more quick report on that pile of papers I had to go over. The hard part was all the URLs I had to check to see if I wanted to follow the sites being promoted on the stuff I picked up at conventions or Free Comic Book Day gatherings. Next week I’ll be reviewing a book.

That book will be the one I’m completing tomorrow, Transformers Armada: The Battle Begins. I already have my next book selected. It’s also a first in a series (a theme I hope to break with the book after this) but it’s not something I usually pick up. I’m hoping that goes better than The Black Stallion’s Ghost but that book’s biggest problem was the guy reading it at the time. 🙂 I’m not sure what else is coming because every time I say I want to do a particular thing something else happens to stop me. Look how long it took me to finally watch Avengers: Age Of Ultron despite saying for weeks another Finally Watched was coming. I would like to do an Internet Spotlight on a superhero webcomic but we’ll see how that goes. Hope the week finds you well.

Captain PSA #9: Portals

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Saturday night video presentation for this special announcement comic.

There seems to be a lot of kids going missing through interdimensional portals, being trapped in other worlds. In Japan alone it’s reaching epidemic proportions and you can only hope your smartphone gets magic powers and an eternal power source just to survive. Even the bathtub sometimes isn’t safe. Somebody needs to warn kids that magical adventures may not be what’s awaiting them but certain death. They need…

What You Haven’t Heard About Star Trek: Picard

I’ve been keeping track of the situation at CBS and Paramount regarding the Star Trek franchise, usually through the excellent work of the Midnight’s Edge team over on YouTube. It’s a very long story. Basically, when they split CBS and Paramount parent company Viacom apart the Star Trek license got split and a lot of annoying stuff has come out since because of it. Picard seems to be the only things fans are praising since the release of the trailer at Comic-Con.

However, just as Star Trek: Discovery seemed to borrow a lot of their ideas (and by “borrow” I mean “outright steal”) from a indie game called Tartagrade it seems the initial concept at least for Picard may actually be taken from a pitch by the man who created Discovery only to be kicked out and his ideas replaced by what CBS stole from that game. Here’s the latest news and rumors from Midnight’s Edge.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Take Another Galactic Hitchhike

Douglas Adams wrote for Doctor Who. It kind of works.

Douglas Adams’ Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy book series has been adapted into audio dramas, TV shows, movies, video games, and I’m sure there’s a comic floating around somewhere too. Now the internet is getting into the game with a new web series being made for Hulu. I’m starting to wonder if cutting the cord on cable/satellite really is cheaper if you want to see everything.
