BW’s Free Comic Book Day 2019

In a rarity for me I only missed one comic. Legends Of Superheroes in Oakville, CT was only out on Punchline by the time I got there. Disappointing but missing one comic is pretty much a win for me. All the other comics were ready to go.

Unlike previous years when I would live-tweet the comic as I went through it this year I only put out my final opinion on the comic due to time. I managed to snag a trio of interviews which ate up a lot of my day getting. I even received a really cool print as a thank you from one of the interviewees that I really want to find a good frame for. It’s going to be easier for me to just post the tweets below of each of the comics, so it’s a bit truncated this year by necessity. Still, here’s what I came home with for Free Comic Book Day and my thoughts on them.

BW Approved Kickstarter: Cybertronic Spree’s First Album

A long time ago I brought you the amazing music of Cybertronic Spree, a band cosplaying as Transformers sharing their love of 80s rock and the soundtrack to Transformers: The Movie and a few other shows. Well now they have a Kickstarter to put out their first physical album, a tribute to that movie soundtrack. If I had the money I would totally be backing it because I wouldn’t mind having it in my collection. However, I can at least convince you to make it part of yours.

BW’s Morning Article Link: Peter Mayhew Passes Away

May 19,1944-April 30th, 2019

Sad news has come out. Peter Mayhew, who until recently gave a body to Chewbacca the Wookie from the Star Wars franchise, passed away. As of this writing I don’t know what he passed away from, though the last few times I saw him he certainly looked his age. He did recently have surgery but the report I’m using didn’t claim that as a factor. While a new actor has already received the torch from Mayhew himself he also did a lot of Star Wars conventions and fans will miss him.

The Making Of Thundarr The Barbarian [VIDEO]

So if Tad Stones’ re-imagining that I went over last night failed to properly reboot the ideas and core of Thundarr The Barbarian then what went into making the original? What was in their heads when creating such a unique show? Well, someone posted the short documentary Lords Of Light from the Thundarr DVD, and that shows what should have been on Tad’s mind when trying to reboot the 80s classic cartoon. So why don’t I just post that while I can?

BW’s Morning Article Link: Game Of Thrones The Last Shared Show?

The leader Westeros deserves.

Streaming sites have changed the way this current generation watches “TV”. Outside of live events like sports and concerts, people today can watch a show anytime they want, even more than the days of VCRs and DVRs. While a show can have a large fanbase they don’t watch an episode on the same night and then discuss it with their friends online or in the break room like we used to. Fansided’s Patrick Schmidt makes the case that Game Of Thrones may well be the last TV show to get everyone watching at the same time and discussing afterwards. Not everyone binge watches an entire season on the same day.
