Transformers: Foundation #3
IDW Publishing (April 2011)
WRITER: John Barber ARTIST: Andrew Griffith COLORIST: Priscilla Tramontano LETTERER: Shawn Lee ASSISTANT EDITOR: Carlos Guzman EDITOR: Andy Schmidt
As Optimus and Ironhide storm Megatron’s fortress, the flashback takes us to events just after the last movie’s Cybertron-based prequel comic as Optimus, finally confirming that he is in fact a Prime, has accepted his role as the Autobot leader. They meet up with the retired Sentinel Prime, who has a device that could end the war. However, it must get energy from the All-Spark, and Megatron currently holds the All-Spark.
What they got right: I again give Barber credit for making sure his story matches the previous prequels. We also get a (pardon the expression) fleshing out of characters we only had hints of in the previous movie.
What they got wrong: Three issues into a four-issue mini-series and we still don’t know what’s set Optimus off?
Recommendation: So far the weaker issue in the mini, but still enjoyable. Worth checking out.
No scene stood out for a Best Scene nomination.
