All-New Batman: The Brave & The Bold #8
DC Comics (August 2011)
WRITER: Sholly Fisch PENCILER: Rick Burchett INKER: Dan Davis COLORIST: Gabe Eltaeb LETTERER: Dezi Sienty ASSISTANT EDITOR: Chynna Clugston Flores EDITOR: Jim Chadwick
Batman and Aquaman are aided in their fight with The Fisherman by the ghost of a pirate who regrets his actions in life. Aquaman knows of a magic amulet that might free him from the curse, but Black Manta wants it for himself. The remorseful spirit may have to find another way to redeem his soul.
What they got right: I do enjoy the over-the-top version of Aquaman from the series and Fisch does a good job translating him to comic form.
What they got wrong: The part with Aquaman trying to duck his paperwork could have been a decent subplot (and a teachable moment to the young reader target audience done right without hitting them over the head with the moral) but was not really utilized to the point of being unnecessary.
Recommendation: If the current comics are too dark for you and you’d rather read something fun with Batman or Aquaman, here is the comic for you. While not as zany as the show it’s still pretty good.
