Mega Man #2

Archie Comics (August 2011)

WRITER: Ian Flynn
PENCILER: Patrick “Spaz” Spaziante
INKER: Rick Bryant
COLORIST: Matt Herms
LETTERER: John Workman
EDITOR: Paul Kaminski

Rock, as Mega Man, begins his pursuit of Wily by going after (in order) Bomb Man, Guts Man, and Cut Man. (At least according to this site that is the recommended order thus far.) However, is the kind-“hearted” robot ready to become a super fighting robot?

What they got right: From what I can tell, Flynn is following the recommended boss order in the game. Each Robot Master is its own fight, and along the way Mega Man is forced to go against who he is by choice to be a hero.

What they got wrong: Personally I would have stretched this out, with each robot being it’s own issue. There could be some interesting sub-plots. However, since I doubt Flynn has spent years thinking about how he’d write a Mega Man comic like I have, I really can’t fault him for it. He did actually get the other robots in and explain the level, plus used a variation of the power copy technique as it appeared on the show, so there was a lot of thought put into this.

Recommendation: So far I’m really enjoying this comic. I would definitely encourage fans of the game to check this out.
