Love & Capes: What To Expect #3

While Abby and Mark get their first look at the baby, the story focuses on Darkblade. Worried that he’s overworked and not spending enough time with Amazonia, Darkblade is finally convinced to take on a sidekick and heir , with three prospective choices. However, when Amazonia returns from an all-week woman’s retreat she has bad news.

What they got right: This is Mark/Crusader and Abby’s story but it’s nice to see a story that’s more focused on the supporting cast. Seeing Crusader and Darkblade as friends makes me miss the days when Superman and Batman were best buds. Also, the first panel is a nod to Doctor Who and IDW’s Infestation events and that’s a crossover I actually want to see. And I didn’t even catch the Transformers stories. I just want to see the Doctor in Deco City or Chronopolis.

What they got wrong: I think I like Dart better than the other two choices, but she’s also the only one we see actually fighting a supervillain. (Also she was in Mean Girls, apparently.) I want to see what the other two can do besides homework and screwing up a coffee order.

Recommendation: I wish more elements of this series showed up in other superhero comics, and that there were more supervillain-fighting tales in this one. Still, you should really check it out.
