Scribblenauts Unmasked: A Crisis Of Imagination #8
DC Comics (October, 2014)
“The Game Of Everything” WRITER: Josh Elder ARTIST: Adam Archer COLORIST: Ian Herring LETTERER: Saida Temofonte EDITOR: Alex Antone
Maxwell and Lilly end up at Madame Xanadu’s house in Limbo, where characters deemed too silly for a rebooted universe end up. Xanadu tells the Scribblenauts the history of the Anti-Monitor thanks to the titular board game, and convinces them to seek out the only ones who can help them…the doppleganger Scribblenauts! And they better come up with a plan fast. The Anti-Monitor has taken control of the Justice League and the Scribblenauts are going to need a league of their own.
What they got right: I love how Elder attempts to explain the Limbo characters with as minimum breakage of the fourth wall as possible. The story is going very well so far and I’m curious who they will select from the multiverse and what they’ll look like in the Scribblenauts art style.
What they got wrong: I don’t care what’s going on in the New 52, seeing Superman and Wonder Woman all romantic on the cover bugs me. Really, that’s all I’ve got.
Recommendation: This is still a fun read that is a good introduction to kids but adults who have followed DC for long enough can get something out of, too. Pick this one up.
