Batman ’66 #13
DC Comics (September, 2014)
“Don’t Change That Bat-Channel!” WRITER: Gabe Soria ARTIST: Dean Haspiel COLORIST: AllenPassalaqua COVER ART: Michael & Laura Allred LETTERER: Wes Abbott ASSISTANT EDITOR: Aniz Ansari SENIOR EDITOR: Jim Chadwick
A television adaptation of Batman, “The Dark Knight Detective” is the talk of Gotham…and the source of Batman’s discomfort. The Detective wears the cowl, and a three-piece suit who gives his enemies “the Bat-Business”, a bit too violent for this comic. However, the producer has a deadly final episode planned for the Caped Crusaders.
What they got right: I don’t know if this is a parody or commentary on the darker versions of Batman and some people’s preference for it. I also don’t care because watching the Adam West Batman react to a tamer version of a Frank Miller Batman (more “Year One” than “All-Star”) is just funny.
What they got wrong: The art isn’t bad at all but the likenesses to the actors go beyond license issues and look nothing like the actors. Except for Alfred, interestingly enough.
Recommendation: You don’t have to give me the Bat-Business to recommend this comic. It’s just too funny.
