Courtesy of Space 1970 comes an interview by Neil Shister for The Miami Herald. Whatever you may think of the classic Battlestar Galactica you have to admit the set for the bridge was amazing for its time. Shister interviews Jack Chillberg, the art director for the pilot, and goes into discussions into the importance of set design for TV and movies, including comments from other set designers. I did a little set work for a school play and that was a lot of work. (I was mostly an aide and this wasn’t my style of art so I didn’t really do much except help now and then and otherwise stand around wondering what I should be doing.)

What play was that? Was it one at the middle school or the high school? I will say this: the special effects for Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica were pretty awesome for the late 1970s.

High school. I only did Chorus in middle school, although I did have a line in one of those productions.

Set design involves lots of carpentry and painting.
