Leaving Cliffjumper with the damaged Omega Supreme until the others arrive, Bumblebee and Jetfire head after Sunstorm, whose existence the Autobots on Cybertron are just beginning to realize. When Shockwave tried to send out data from Vector Sigma some of it ended up in Sunstorm and this is the source of his “divine mission”. He and Starscream head to a cavern in the snowy regions of Alaska, where Jetfire and Omega Supreme once tracked a mysterious symbol before being attacked by Scourge. There is a seal there that Starscream can open due to ties to Megatron, but before Sunstorm can elaborate Skyfire and Bumblebee arrive. Starscream opens the seal and the quartet go into the tunnel uncovered, with the Autobots chasing the Decepticon and the infused drone. Jetfire manages to defeat Starscream but Sunstorm nabs Bumblebee. With everyone distracted, Starscream alters his null ray and nulls the daylights out of Sunstorm, shoving him further down the chasm, as well as blasting Jetfire and now the damaged Bumblebee is the only one left active.
What they got right: We learn how Scourge got into that status pod back in volume 2 as well as where Jetfire and Omega Supreme have been all this time. And if Sunstorm is the result of downloading a portion of Vector Sigma then what is Earth’s connection to Cybertron?
What they got wrong: WHY is Earth somehow tied to Cybertron? Does it really have to be some special world in this continuity? We unwillingly hosted the Autobot/Decepticon war. I think that’s enough.
Recommendation: This is my favorite run on Transformers and so far this re-read hasn’t changed that. Highly recommend this volume thus far.
