Transformers Evolutions: Hearts Of Steel #2

IDW (July, 2006)

WRITER: Chuck Dixon

ARTIST: Guido Guidi

INKER: Aaron Leach

LETTERING: Sulaco Studios

EDITORS: Chris Ryall & Dan Taylor

Bumblebee, seeking potential allies among the humans, wins over John Henry. Meanwhile, Starscream and his Decepticons trick Tobias into helping them design new forms for the environment and create new weapons to take over Earth and destroy Megatron. This includes having the Insecticons attack a money train to afford supplies. When Tobias learns what the Decepticons’ true motives are, he escapes with only his previous backer and Mark Twain to go to for help. Meanwhile, the Autobots decide not to wake Optimus up just yet, but do plan to track down the Decepticons.

What they got right: Thus far this does feel like how the Decepticons would operate had they popped up a century or so earlier than traditional. While the colors are still muted, the lighting effects work well enough considering. And of course Bumblebee is the first one to make contact with a human, and having the steam hammer befriend John Henry instead of causing his death (indirectly if you know the legend) is an interesting twist.

What they got wrong: So what does it take for the other Autobots to finally wake up Optimus? And what happened to Megatron? And can you still call them Insecticons when they turn into a train and train cars?

Recommendation: Still a good story thus far and the designs for the Industrial alt modes are pretty cool Hopefully this continues because I’m still recommending getting this.
